Can Pakistan Win The Second One-Day International At Hambantota Against Sri Lanka

It was a great day for Pakistan when they won the first ODI match against Sri Lanka on Saturday when things weren’t looking quite in favor of Pakistan. At just 106 against Sri Lanka’s 275 Pakistan had already lost their 5 wickets that included the best top order and middle order batsmen including big names such as Muhammad Hafeez and Misbah ul Haq. Fawad Alam and Sohaib Maqsood then gave the team a memorable win by constructing a partnership of 147 runs. They consumed only 117 balls to build this partnership and this became the basis for Pakistan’s win on Saturday.

The 2nd ODI will be played at Hambantota again since the consistent heavy rains in Colombo had resulted in the rescheduling of the venue. A reliable middle order and experienced player Younis Khan will not be available to give his support to the team on Tuesday as he had to come back to Pakistan due to the death of his nephew.

As it normally happens, Saeed Ajmal will not be playing for Pakistan once again because his bowling action has been suspected once again. His bowling action will go under strict tests once again in Australia and he will be able to return to join the team only after he has been stated cleared of all the suspects on his bowling action.

Missing Saeed Ajmal from the squad might not harm the team as much as it normally does since from the first match it can be said that Sri Lankan team was more intimidated and damaged by the Pakistan’s left arm fast bowlers.

While Pakistan is missing its two experienced and reliable players i.e. Younis Khan and Saeed Ajmal in the series, Sri Lankan captain, Angelo Mathews, seems to be in a mood to make deliberate and continuous changes in his lineup. He said the World Cup is just coming and he thinks this is the right time for him to experiment and test new players so he can decide 15 players’ squad for the World Cup. He said he will make frequent changes in the team’s lineup without any hesitation.

From what Angelo Mathews has said it can be concluded that there will be a big change in the top order batsmen lineup of the team in the coming match since Pakistan left arm fast bowlers proved to be a big threat for them in the first ODI.

Pakistan should be in confidence after securing the first victory of the 3-match series in Sri Lanka. Not to mention, it should be a great sign for Pakistani players that they were able to chase a 250 plus target in the first match which is something they are not known for. However, the chase in the first match was not an ideal chase and rather a rare performance put up by the middle order batsmen to save their side from losing. If Pakistan wins the match against Sri Lanka today, the visiting team (Pakistan) will win the 3 match series with 2-0 with one more match to come.
