Saad Rafique May be Made Adviser on Railways
The former railways minister, Khawaja Saad Rafique, who had been unseated from his position on May 5th by an election tribunal may be made adviser to the prime minster of the country on railways. Sources have revealed that it has been suggested by the senior leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to the party leadership to appoint him in this particular position.
Nonetheless, the sources also said that a final decision hadn’t been taken and the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and he would soon make it. His party had decided to challenge the unseating of the stalwart PML-N member in the Supreme Court. The Railways Minister had lost his seat because of alleged irregularities in the general elections that took place in 2013.
Saad Rafique had won the NA-125 seat with a majority of 40,000 votes in Lahore as a landslide victory had been achieved by PML-N in May 2013. However, widespread fraud had been claimed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) in the polls of 2013. Hamid Khan, the PTI rival of Saad Rafique, who took the second place in NA-125 elections, had filed a petition against the results in the elections. On May 4th, the tribunal had ruled in favor of Khan and had ordered that fresh polls should be organized in the NA-125 constituency.
