Nawaz and Other PML-N Leaders Booked For Conspiracy

The former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, along with various other PML-N leaders, have been booked for conspiracy. On Monday, the Punjab authorities registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the leaders for ‘conspiring against the state and its institutions’.

The FIR against the supreme leader of the PML-N was registered at the Shahdara police station in the city of Lahore. The complaint consisted of various sections such as 120 A and B along with 121 A and B. Amongst other provisions, sections 123 A and B, as well as 124 A and B were also imposed.

The text of the FIR outlined that Nawaz had made provocative speeches and degraded the prestigious institutions of Pakistan while residing in London. The conspiracy charges were filed against him, as it is believed that he only made the speeches to declare the country a ‘state of hooligans’.

The FIR includes the names of several prominent leaders of PML-N. Amongst these are Maryam Nawaz, Ahsan Iqbal, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who is the country’s former prime minister, Muhammad Zubair, and Saira Afzal Tarrar.

On the 4th of October, Muhammad Safdar, Captain (retd), who is also the son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif, was also booked by authorities. An FIR against him claimed sedition charges because he had ‘provoked’ the citizens against the state and all of its institutions.

The FIR was also registered against Imran Khalid Butt, the lawmaker from Punjab Assembly, belonging to PML-N. The charges against these two men were booked in a police station in the Satellite Town of Gujranwala.

According to the FIR registered against Safdar, he threatened to expose the government to the public of the country with the help of protests. Moreover, it also said that the retired Captain had addressed the authorities for permission to hold a protest in Gujranwala on the 16th of October. The FIR claims that he threatened to take the permission by ‘force’, if he had to.

‘FIR evidence of PM’s bafflement’

Following the registration of the FIR against her, Marriyam Augranzeb, the spokesperson for PML-N denounced all charges. She went on to say that they were the only evidence of how baffled the current Prime Minister, Imran Khan, is.

She stated that the citizens of the country had already chosen the premier for treason through their constitution, national interests, and mandate. Referring to the FIR filed against her and her fellows, she said that it was only an indication that a selected government and its reign was about to come to an end.

The spokesperson went on to say that false cases of treason could not conceal the truths that the government was hiding. She went on to say that all those who were raising their voices for human rights, democracy, media, and constitution were being discarded after being labeled as traitors. Aurangzeb also pointed out that it was the right of every individual, political opponent or not, to raise their voice in public.
