Yousuf Raza Gillani Leads Delegation of PPP to Meet Fazl

The Head of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Chief Fazl-ur-Rehman, claimed that there is obvious unrest in the ranks of the government. According to him, this restlessness has been caused by the alliance showing support for Yousuf Raza Gillani, as he eyes the chairmanship of the Senate.

The veteran politician expressed that the election of Yousuf Raza Gillani as the chairman of the Senate will be an honor for the 11-party opposition alliance. He gave his speech right after he had a meeting with a delegation of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which was led by the former Prime Minister in his residence in the capital city of Pakistan.

Fazl further observed that inflation in the country is on the rise and the citizens’ purchasing power, even for essential commodities, is readily declining. In his opinion, the masses are going through an extremely difficult situation right now, as they have been for the past two-and-a-half years, ever since the election of the current PTI government in the year 2018.

Gilani also spoke on occasions saying that he was able to receive votes in the past and is hopeful that the same thing will happen again. He said that his roots are in the masses, who will ensure that he takes the position as the Senate chairman.

The former premier was quite happy that the PDM has nominated him for this slot and asserted that he will fully represent them all. He also observed that the establishment is seemingly impartial when it comes to the soon-to-be Senate elections.

Gilani added that when he announced that he would be running for this particular slot, it caused worries amongst the parliamentarians of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He claimed that it is because of him that Imran Khan is holding meetings with his MPAs and MNAs.

Just last week, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) accepted the nomination papers that the former Prime Minister provided. They also approved the nomination of Faisal Vawda, Federal Minister of PTI, for the upcoming elections.

However, the authority did not approve of nominations submitted by a senior leader of the PML-N, Pervaiz Rashid, and Neelam Irshad, from PTI, on the last day of the scrutiny process.
