Record-Breaking Poor Year For England's Team After Ashes Defeat

In the last six tours to Australia, England only managed to secure a victory in one. Australia has won an urn in the quickest of manner possible this time around which has left the England team embarrassed for underperforming. They failed to even compete during the first three ashes test matches which resulted in big losses for them. They have no chance to make a comeback in the series which leaves the remaining 2 tests a dead rubber.

It took only 852.3 overs for Australia to retain the ashes which is the fastest for Australia to claim the ashes on home soil. This shows how dominant Australia has been for the whole series played so far.

Record-Equaling losses

England has become the first-ever team to lose 9 test matches during a calendar year.

England started this year on a promising note as they swatted away Sri-lanka on spinning tracks and claimed a series by 2-0. After that series, England handed over India a defeat in a first test match which was the second test victory by any visiting team against India on Indian soil since 2012.

After that win against India, England lost their winning charisma and only managed to add one win and 9 losses in their annual tally. After losing 9 test matches in a year, they have leveled it with Bangladesh who lost 9 matches in the year 2013. This is quite embarrassing stats to have for an English side.

Unfulfilled promise

The year 2021 has seen a lot of young players announce their talent on the big stage for England but nobody performed well enough to take England home in their test encounters. We have seen some brilliant individual performances from Dom Sibley, Zak Crawley, and must not forget Ollie pope who had a breakthrough year in test cricket.

Apart from young guns, Jos Butler and Ben stokes had a pretty decent England summer but they failed to shine during the all-important Ashes series. With all the players chipping with few little performances, England captain Joe root stands tall for scoring more than 1700 runs for England in a calendar year.

Root stands alone

It’s been a great year for English Skipper Joe root who continued his supreme form for a whole year and ended a year scoring 1708 runs. He was the lone warrior for England in the test matches even in the ashes where the other English batsman’s found it tough to deal with Mitchell Starc and co. Also, he is the only England batsman who has seen some improvement in a batting average from the year 2020.

England bowling was not threatening for any batting order and that could be seen how their bowlers got thrashed in the ashes series. None of their bowlers was seen in a good rhythm to attack the opposition. They were lacking in a lot of departments. It’s time for England to forget what happened during the last year and they need to undergo some big changes to be able to perform better in the upcoming matches.
