Peshawar Imambargah Suicide Attack At Least 56 Dead

During Friday prayers nearly 200 people were injured and at least 56 were killed due to a powerful suicide bomb blast that took place in an imambargah in Peshawar's Kocha Risaldar area. 

A spokesperson from the Lady Reading Hospital where the injured have been brought, Mohammad Asim confirmed the dead where more than 30 bodies were received. He stated that some of the injured are in critical condition, while a team of medical staff and doctors are treating the patients. Availability of medicines, blood supply, and paramedic staff in the emergency department has been ensured.

Inspector General of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa stated that in the suicide attack around 150 ball bearings were present in the suicide vest. And the attackers were on foot while attacking the imambargah and police guards were present there. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) confirmed in its initial report that the explosives were homemade and the weight of the explosives which were used in the attack was near five to six kilograms.

Muhammad Aijaz Khan CCPO Peshawar has confirmed the death and stated that there were two attackers involved. The two police officers on duty were also attacked, one was seriously injured while the other officer died in the attack. CCPO stated that after the firing incident outside the blast took place inside the mosque. Following the blast, a large contingent including police officials as well as Pakistan Army personnel has reached the location of the blast and confined the area. The victims were immediately shifted to the Hospitals, where the condition of some injured is said to be critical.

PM Imran Khan has strongly condemned this suicide attack which took place at imambargah present near Qissa Khawani Bazaar of Peshawar city. The prime minister also instructed all the authorities to arrange the best possible medical treatment for the injured citizens and asked for an inquiry report from the concerned authorities.

PML-N Head and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have also expressed their deep grief about this incident. He prayed for the deceased persons and the quick recovery of injured people. He stated in a tweet that, Pakistan which has gotten rid of terrorism is burning in the fire of terrorism again. In these difficult times, my prayers and sympathies are with bereaved families.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed Federal Minister of Interior also confirmed the suicide attack and accepted that the ministry do not have prior information about this attack. The interior minister stated that a couple of days back we had a meeting but we had no information about the threat or any threat alerts was received.

Ministry spokesman has confirmed that more than 30 people so far have been deceased and 50 plus were injured.

Meanwhile, the interior minister has strongly condemned the terrorist attack and instructed the IG KP and chief secretary to present the report. The minister also expressed his grief over the deceased citizens and his sympathy with the bereaved families who lost their relatives. 

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Federal Minister of Information and Broadcast also condemn the Peshawar suicide attack and expressed his grief over the lost lives and prayed for the recovery of the injured people.
