Clash Between Minhajul Quran Workers and Police Claims 7 Lives
At least 7 people have been killed and around 90 including a policeman have been injured in result of a clash between the police and protestors outside Minhajul Quran Secretariat.
Having begun early Tuesday morning, the clashes exaggerated during the day. Minhajul Quran workers, on early Tuesday morning, bombarded police with stones chanting slogans against current government as police tried to eradicate blockades that were placed outside residence of Dr. Tahirul Qadri and the secretariat of the organization.
Police baton, in heavy contingent, charged the activists and finally resorted to tear gas and aerial firing in order to disperse the furious protesters. As per police, they tried to remove hurdles only because people were having hitches in their movements.
A Minhajul Quran spokesman, however, stated that Minhajul Quran had already sought orders from Lahore High Court to close the roads around the secretariat. Dr. Tahirul Qadri, reproving the police action, stated that the revolution cannot be stopped through vendetta in the night’s darkness.
Rana Sanaullah, the Punjab Law Minister, said that Tahriul Qadri had organized a private militia in his residence and therefore had developed no-go regions. He further added that this wouldn’t be permitted. Sanaullah assured that a case had already been filed and an inquiry will be conducted.
