Army Chief Gives Approval of Death Sentences of TTP Militants
On Tuesday, General Raheel Sharif, the Army Chief approved the death sentences of 11 ‘hardcore terrorists’. The media wing of the military announced in a statement that the Chief of Army Staff had given his approval of death sentences given to 11 terrorists, who had been involved in committing heinous acts of terrorism, which included killing of Inspector Kamran Nazir of ISI at Quetta, ASI Raza Khan of Balochistan Police and DIG Fayyaz Sumbal.
The convicts whose death sentences have been approved by General Raheel were also deemed to be involved in slaughtering and kidnapping of civilians, sectarian killings, killing of a high-ranking officer of the Pakistan Army and also for the murder of personnel of the Frontier Constabulary (FC). The comminiqué said that these terrorists had planned and carried out several attacks on Armed forces of Pakistan and Law Enforcement Agencies. They had also been accused of the destruction of communication infrastructure and schools.
The statement also said that all of the convicts were active members of the banned TTP i.e. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and had used numerous subverting activities for creating unrest within the country. The list of terrorists who were awarded death sentences by military courts also include Latifur Rehman, son of Saifur Rehman, Abdul Majeed, son of Khona Moula, Ziaul Haq, son of Wali Khan, Umer Zada, son of Gul Rehman, Muhammad Adil, son of Muhammad Akbar Jan, Fazl-e-Rabbi, son of Fazal Ghafoor, Muhammad Sher, son of Zaray, Hazrat Ali, son of Fazal Rabi, Qaiser Khan, son of Habib Khan, Israr Ahmed, son of Abdul Rahim Jan and Mian Said Azam, son of Mian Said Jaffar.
This is not the first time the Chief of Army Staff has given his approval for the death sentences of militants responsible for carrying out terrorist activities in the country. He had confirmed the death sentences of 11 more terrorists in May of this year because of their involvement in attacks on Law Enforcement Agencies and armed forces, kidnapping and killing of civilians and destruction of schools. On March 15, General Raheel had given confirmation for the death sentences of 13 militants, which included one for the terrorist involved in killing of foreign terrorists in Nanga Parbat.
The ISPR said that military courts had tried the condemned terrorists for their involvement in the attack in Nanga Parbat, destruction of schools, Saidu Sharif airport and attacks on civilians, law enforcement agencies and armed forces.
