PM and Federal Ministers Call Out PDM for Endangering Lives
On Sunday, Prime Minister Imran Khan along with some key federal ministers once again censured the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). This new opposition alliance was formed to protest against the current PTI government. However, they are now being accused of putting at risk the lives and livelihoods of the citizens of Pakistan, by holding rallies as the number of coronavirus cases rise alarmingly every day.
The premier expressed that he is concerned for the safety of the people after reviewing the coronavirus spike data of the country. The data highlights that the number of patients in Pakistan, who are in critical condition or on ventilators, has significantly increased in the past 15 days.
Imran Khan took to Twitter and posted a string of tweets condemning the rallies of the opposition. He stated that the entire world is witnessing a rise in coronavirus cases and most countries have imposed complete lockdowns. Meanwhile, he added, PDM in Pakistan refuses to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation.
The premier called out the opposition movement and told them that they will be held responsible if the country is forced into a complete lockdown. The given rate of the infection may lead to some serious consequences for the country. He went on to say that the opposition is deliberately trying to cause a widespread coronavirus outbreak to obtain an NRO. However, Khan informed them that their attempts are in vain because he will not let PDM succeed in their sinister plans at the cost of the lives of the people.
In his tweet, the PM expressed that he does not want to take extreme measures, such as a lockdown. In his opinion, shutting down Pakistan will only cause more damage to the economy of the country, especially when it is showing numerous signs of a robust recovery. He added that while efforts are being made to stabilize the economy, the opposition’s primary focus lies only on the NRO. Khan called PDM out for causing harm not only to the lives of thousands of people but their livelihood as well.
Shibli Faraz, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, also talked about the rallies being taken out by the opposition. He deemed the rallies to be nothing but an act of ‘political brutality’. He also expressed his disapproval over the gathering of large crowds amid the rising coronavirus cases in the country.
The government spokesperson took to Twitter and said that the PDM is only playing games with the lives of the innocent citizens of the country. He stated that the rallies are creating problems for the sake of political gain. Faraz believes that such a display of irresponsibility only shows the mindset of all the parties and groups involved in these rallies.
He maintained that the people who destroyed the economy and defamed the institutions of the state are now going after the employment and health of the people. According to him, the people responsible for endangering the lives and livelihood of the citizens will have to show accountability for all this corruption.
