Lawyer Of Accused, In Noor Mukadam Murder Case Asking For Police Clarifications Made Part Of Record

On Wednesday, the attorney of one of the accused in the Noor Mukadam murder case requested the judge to make the clarifications regarding an early cross-examination of the investigation officer issued by Islamabad police as a part of the case record.

The court proceedings were presided by Ata Rabbani Additional Sessions Judge.

The attorney Asad Jamal representing mother Asmat Adamjee of the main accused Zahir Jaffer questioned the clarifications about the Monday’s hearing which were given by the Islamabad police should be part of the case.

Advocate Rana Hassan Abbas intervened and said that the reports in the media should be left to the media when the judge asked about clarifications he was referring to.

Advocate Jamal told that the inspector general Islamabad police has interfered in the justice system. The Judge questioned if it was done officially and further said if so, this was not good.

The judge was told by the prosecutor if that was the case he would inform him. The judge said he will take action in this regard. The next court hearing was adjourned until Wednesday, February 2nd.

The Islamabad police stated that the media reports had misinterpreted Monday’s proceedings. And the stories appearing in print and social media are giving the wrong impression that the police were trying to give benefit to the primary murder accused, clarified by the police in a press release. Police also provided more details to the investigating officer answers while his cross-examination by Zahir’s lawyer.

The meeting was held in this regard chaired by Inspector General of Police Mohammad Ahsan Younas to review the progress of the case trial after Monday’s proceedings and media reports.

Therapyworks employees were represented by Akram Qureshi and Shehzad Qureshi during the hearing and Sajjad Ahmed Bhatti as the legal counsel of Jaffer's household staff, who conducted the cross-examination of IO Abdul Sattar.

The investigating officer was asked about the details regarding Amjad, an employee of Therapyworks, during the cross-examination, who was injured by Zahir when trying to intervene on the day of incident took place.

The investigating officer who mainly replied yes or no to the questions asked by the lawyers stated that statement of Amjad was not recorded initially due to his critical condition. He further told that on August 14 Amjad was arrested and included in the investigation.

When inquired by the lawyers that after recording Amjad’s statement, Section 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal code was included in the FIR against Zahir, the investigating officer replied that it was not.

He also told that the bloodied clothes of Amjad were not seized by police and his medical examination was also not conducted. When the lawyer asked that Amjad’s blood be collected from the crime scene, the investigating officer again replied in negative.

Noor Mukadam, 27, was murdered at the residence of Jaffer in Islamabad Sector F-7/4 on July 20, 2021. The FIR was registered the same day and Zahir was arrested from the murder site under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code against the complaint of the victim’s father.

Zahir along with 11 others had been indicted in the case by the trial court on October 14, 2021. And the trial formally began on Oct 20.
